. Before going into its effectiveness, you need to understand what is Zerona laser treatment and how it works so that you can know what are its pros and cons.

Zerona laser is a new FDA approved level 3 non-invasive laser that makes the fat cell membranes more porous to fat so that the fatty cells can move into the membranes and be discharged from the body naturally.  However, do note that it is not a full blown fat removal procedure like liposuction. You need to combine zerona treatment with diet,moderate exercise and a vitamin supplement to achieve the effective results.

On average, a zerona patient can expect to lose 5.0 inches inches from the combined measurements of the waist, hips and thighs.

How the Zerona Laser Works

The Zerona system is a low-level laser designed to get rid of body fat and shape and tone up the skin without surgery. Results of a pilot study were presented to the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery in 2008, and the procedure has received FDA clearance to be used in the United States. The low-level laser helped patients lose an average of 5-6 inches from their waists, hips and thighs in a matter of a few weeks.

 

The Zerona laser works by emitting cold laser energy into the body tissues; this energy is absorbed by the body fat, and the fat is broken down and then channeled out of the body. The laser virtually stimulates the break down and removal of body fat, without affecting the surrounding skin and tissues.

Bauman: The surprising effects of certain types of low level laser therapy on fat cells have been the subject of extensive scientific research since the 1990's. Studies using MRI and electron microscopy confirmed the "liquefying" effects of low level laser on fat cells. This research demonstrated the laser's ability to create temporary membrane pores allowing leakage of material out of the fat cells without harming them. Further studies led to the FDA's clearance of the use of the Erchonia LipoLASER to enhance liposuction procedures in 2004. Research completed in 2008 confirmed that Zerona using the LipoLASER is an effective stand-alone non-invasive body contouring therapy. Fat leaks from the adipocytes and is carried away by the lymphatics, eventually excreted through the liver.

At the American Academy Of Cosmetic Surgery's 25th Anniversary Scientific Meeting this past January, the new Zerona LipoLASER was presented in the pole position in the main exhibit hall. Not surprisingly, surgeon reactions and opinions varied but were mostly negative concerning this new technology. However, none of the physicians we spoke with who actually owned a Zerona laser had any bad experiences or complications with the device.

Alan Bauman, MD, who made several presentations at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery scientific meeting was one of the first doctors in the US to perform the Zerona laser treatment. Dr. Bauman and the Zerona LipoLaser were recently featured on the TV Show Extra. Dr. Bauman has a successful practice in Boca Raton, Florida and has had several successful Zerona cases, including recent cases where patients experienced a cumulative loss of 10" (circumferential reduction over several body areas).

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled iPad's new avatar, the iPad 2, an evolution rather than a revolution -- slimmer, lighter and faster.

Apple has just set the specification bar even higher for iPad 2, sticking with the 10-inch display but made it thinner than an iPhone and faster. Apple also managed to reduce the weight of the tablet despite adding new hardware.

The iPad 2 features a 33 percent thinner and lighter design, a new dual-core 1GHz A5 processor, GSM or CDMA 3G connectivity, front and rear cameras for FaceTime video chat over Wi-Fi and gyroscope for gaming.

Apple unveiled its slimmer, lighter and thinner iPad on March 2.

iPad 2, which runs on the latest Apple's latest mobile operating system iOS 4.3, is expected to be available on March 11 in the U.S., and in +26 countries on March 25 with all of the new features but same pricing and no degradation to the 10-hour battery life.

ThinkPad x1: First Impressions: Lenovo ThinkPad X1, available starting May 17

I got a chance to play with a Lenovo ThinkPad X1during the unveiling in New York last week so here are my takeaways from my brief meeting with the 13.4″ ultra-portable business laptop. Check this post for a more extensive review and gallery, and this post for details on the X1’s specs.

thinkpad x1 : Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 laptop battery will charge fast, last three times as long

To compete against the likes of the  MacBook Air and the Samsung SeriesSamsung Series 9 laptops, Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 forthcoming ultraportable needs to do something a little different. According to a leaked PDF, that difference appears to be a new battery tech called RapidCharge.

Compared to previous ThinkPad batteries, Lenovo claims that the X1’s RapidCharge version will last three times as long. In addition, the battery will charge to 80 percent capacity in a mere 30 minutes (working out to charging 2.5 times as quickly as older ThinkPad batteries). The bad news is that the X1’s battery will be sealed, meaning you won’t be able to replace the battery yourself.
